Mouthwatering Muscadet is one of France’s classic whites, and makes a perfect aperitif or shellfish partner. Manoir des Herbauges is single-vineyard, old-vine Muscadet from fifth-generation winemaker Jérôme Choblet and the Cru region of Côtes de Grandlieu. Here, vines benefit from an exceptional microclimate. The warmth of the Atlantic hastens an early spring, and the Lac de Grandlieu preserves heat throughout the growing season, lending extra ripeness to the fruit. If you haven’t tried a wine from here yet, now is the perfect time to start exploring all that this region has to offer!
The Choblet family has owned their estate, Le Manoir des Herbauges, since 1864. Their signature Muscadet regularly wins acclaim from top critics and wine competitions. The previous release was rated 91 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards, who wrote “Appealing lemon, menthol and spice aromatics. Lovely balance of ripeness and freshness on the vibrant palate. Good length, good value.” We expect the latest release to continue the tradition.
In the vineyard, the Choblet family has long been committed to sustainable farming practices (the estate is certified Terra Vitis) and are also recognized as innovators. They were also the first independent estate in the region to use computerized temperature control for fermentation and the first to use pneumatic presses (both now standard).
After a rigorous selection process (15% of the grapes were eliminated to preserve quality), Jérôme aged the wine sur lie for extra complexity, and it has a gentle spritz that preserves the wine’s natural freshness.
