Dauntless Riveter Rosé embodies the courageous, vibrant spirit of World War II heroines who stepped up to serve America when she needed them most. It’s crafted by Dauntless Wine Cø., a winery founded, owned and run by veterans.
At Dauntless, the team has a clear mission: craft fine, limited-production wines while helping vets translate their talents from the battlefield to the farm. Through employment and the Dauntless Veteran Foundation (partly funded by wine sales proceeds), the winery assists vets in rehabilitating and reintegrating into civilian life by teaching them agricultural skills.
The name Dauntless speaks to the courage and determination of all who have served America, but especially co-founder and Marine Corps vet Ben Martin. Like World War II’s women riveters, he and his partners didn’t know much about their new field at first, but Ben remained undaunted and set up shop in Oregon’s prized Willamette Valley. Three short years later, he secured an AAS in winemaking and vineyard management from Chemeketa Community College’s Wine Studies program, where he earned an “Emerging Leader” award.
Ben’s effort has come to delicious fruition in Riveter Rosé. He crafted it with hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes from La Dolce Vita Vineyard in Tualatin Hills, a tiny, premium sub-region of Willamette Valley. The deep-pink color results from letting the Pinot Noir grapes’ red skins soak in the juice for 24 hours, then pressing and co-fermenting it with saignée (red juice drawn from a tank meant for red wine) from the same Pinot Noir lot.
Riveter Rosé offers fresh, expressive notes of strawberry, rhubarb and watermelon rind. On the palate, there’s a wonderful balance of crispness, bold fruit and a rounded texture.
