Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the Southern Rhône’s most prized red wine, and quality in recent years has been astounding. In fact, “Châteauneuf-du-Pape was the top-performing appellation in 2022,” according to Decanter’s Rhône critic Matt Walls.

There’s no better taste for fans than Château Sixtine, the legendary Diffonty family’s powerful flagship release. Out of the hundreds of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines that entered France’s prestigious Concours des Vignerons Indépendants, Château Sixtine 2022 was one of only four reds to win a gold medal.

The Diffonty family have been growing vines here in the southern Rhône since 1673 and current proprietor Jean-Marc Diffonty has been called an “innovative visionary” by the world’s leading critic, Robert Parker. In addition to that big gold-medal win, Jean-Marc’s 2022 release has also won 93 points from Decanter plus two 92-point scores, one from critic James Suckling:

A classic Châteauneuf blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, Château Sixtine is made in extremely small quantities at the Diffonty’s boutique estate. While it’s already delicious now (especially with traditional pairings like roasted lamb or ratatouille), don’t be afraid to stash a few bottles away for the coming years.
